Grey Water Bath

Being water conservative we try to scoop out the used bath water into lined up buckets which are used to water the plants. This creates alot of drips and is hard work.

Now that we have the mound, which needs quiet a bit of water at the moment, Zoe and decided to come up with an easier method- it still requires some labour (e.g scooping out the bath water) but this will keep our arms toned and is cheaper than the gym.

Using an old bath, we first built a frame that the bath could rest on. We guestimated by measuring the height of the bath, plus the attachment and then added 20cm for ground clearance.

The attachment was bought at a local plumbing supplies and cost AUD$25 - it is in reality 2 reducers and then a brass spout that the hose can clip into. This screwed onto the end of the existing plug (that had a little bit of pipe and thread).

The building process was fairly ad hoc- the saw was blunt (we ended up using the pruning saw), the wood we chose was hard wood and I broke the rechargeable hand drill about 1/2 way through. The electric drill was way too powerful to control comfortably, we resorted to hammer and nails to hold it all together.

Its well camofloughed and at a comfortable height for an adult to scoop and pour

The theory is- after a bath, open the bathroom window and bucket out into the greywater bath, which has the hose attached to the plug and runs all the way down to the mound. Genius!

I know that there needs to be some kind of grey water filtration- but that will be next...
