I've finally got back into the garden after several months away. We've been eating alot of salad (lettuce, rocket, basil, coriander, parsley) and eggplant over the past few weeks. The capsicum and small bell chillis continue on - though the supposedly 'sweet' long capsicum is quite spicy- I think they look like the fresh version of pickled jalapenos.
last time i was up I got sick of walking the whole way around the mound to do things on the other side, so this time I've dug out a section of the mound and made a new track. The soil I dug out was moved to the far end over where the corn used to grow.I tried to be nice the watermelon still growing inthis section, but they've never produced much (only one melon from several vines) so I wasn't too worried. Now the mound is split into two easy to manage sections.
Transplanted things that were growing in the seciton I dug out- mainly cabbage, parsley, one okra plant, few self-sown tomatoes and a capsicum. Planted out spinach and have the carrots and articoke for planting out tomorrow.
The eggplant bushes are huge and heavy and have been lying on the ground, so started to re-stake all of them. The passionfruit vines have gone crazy, and the green manure self-sowed and came up again underneath though not nearly as thick or green as the first sown lot. Cut this down again with the whipper snipper, cleared the grass round the edges and moved the pumpkin to grow underneath the passionfruit.
One of the small citrus trees is sending up suckers, though I am not sure why and neither is Mum or Tiny. The suckers are quite distinct from the tree- its a grafted tree and the suckers are from the root stock, so they don't even look the same as whats growing. Very interesting. If anyone knows why citrus sends up suckers it would be great to hear from you
Tomorrow I'll put some photos up
