New herb garden

We've had a bit of a water crisis here the last few days. I've managed now to forget to turn off the hose (twice) whilst watering the mound, and have managed to run the tanks pretty low- and to add to the fun, the pump brought up air - all discovered late on a saturday night.

We attempted to prime the pump a few times in the dark- sunday was spent carrying water in from the spare tank and eventually we decided to drain the spare tank into the two main tanks. Every one took bucket baths Sunday night and today we seem to have managed to get the air pocket through (fingers crossed).

Mum has sprayed the stink bugs with something awful- nothing organic was effective...if anyone has any tested and proven solutions we'll be happy to try. The stink bugs have also invaded the avocado tree this year. Saw two bats (fruit bats I think) tonight eating the fruit of our Cocos Palm- these receive lots of criticism from the neighbours but provide much joy to the bats and possums
Saturday we cut down the umbrella tree and posieta(spelling?) to turn the old fishpond into a herb garden. It hasn't held water in a long time and we'll use the two bathtubs that were occupying the pond for our new worm farms.

There is alot of shade in that courtyard, we are trialling the new gardenbed- it seems to be getting direct sun from around 7am-12pm, but this may shorten during winter. Mum still has her doubts, thinking it looks bare and ugly, but I think once the herbs are up it will great. We just need to figure what to go along the thin, poor soil section that can block the view from the galleries toilets right into our house.
