Here's the base for the new mound- a thick (knee deep) layer of horse poo, covered with dynamic lifter and blood'n'bone raked through, cowpea and japanese millet planted into it and covered with the old corn stalks to protect it.
Its right behind the mini-green house. The asparagus bed will eventually go in at the far end.
Left a wide gap for wheel barrow to go through between the two mounds.
This is where I transplanted the Luffa seedlings. Its been so hot, despite watering 2-3 times each day during the first few days, I thought the seedlings needed some extra protection
I've started building up the 2nd mound again.
It had really settled and was quite low, as I've pulled out the tomatoes and sweet potato from one end, and everything was just so dry, I built up with more lucerne and Mum was collecting leaves to cover all this.
In the back ground of this photo you can see where I cut down the cowpea and millet under the passionfruit, and the banana trees coming up in the back of the 3rd mound.
Here was the cherry tomato bush- so vigorous they were smothering the lemon tree behind. A favourite with the local birds, we hardly got any cherry tomatoes after Christmas. Local birds also decimated the grapes. Bird nets for sure next year.
Cowpea- the pods were mostly nice and crispy which meant it was easy to pod them!
