Celery Experiment

Half of our celery is grown in this small green house whilst half is in the mound- celery eaters tell me that the stalks should be kept white and crisp and that the very green stalks are 'woody' and not good eating.

I'm trying out this experiment of keeping the sun off the stalks and encouraging the plants to grow up- rather than sprawl out which seems to be the natural formation of the plants.

In this greenhouse- I wrapped newspaper and tied with twine around the celery, whereas in the garden I used cardboard tubes which allow more air and light down around the stalks.
